Walmer Police have arrested seven suspects aged between 16 and 28 within hours of a robbery being reported at Madiba's Shop in Airport Valley, Port Elizabeth on Monday night.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, says they followed up on information and headed out to a shack in Airport Valley where the seven suspects were arrested.
Police also seized two firearms with ammunition, four knives, 12 cell phones, airtime vouchers to the value of R5,000, an undisclosed amount of cash, cigarettes, wallets and various other items which were allegedly taken during the robbery.
Walmer Station Commander, Col. Jacob Flemmer, views the arrests as a breakthrough and is confident that the suspects will be linked to other crimes committed within the Walmer policing precinct.
The suspects are currently in custody and will appear in court on Thursday on a string of charges including business robbery and the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
