Suspects in Graaff-Reinet murder identified

Two suspects from Vereeniging in the Vaal Triangle appeared in the Graaff-Reinet Magistrates court on Monday in connection with the murder of Anette Jooste.

The 59-year-old Jooste's body was found last month along the N9 outside town.

Spokesperson Captain Bradley Rawlinson says the 48-year-old Chené Chantell Verwey and the 28-year-old Mandla Khumalo were arrested in Vereeniging on Sunday.

He says Warrant Officer Andre Pienaar and his team from the Vereeniging Police assisted in the investigation and the arrest.

Verwey and Khumalo were brought to Graaff-Reinet where they briefly appeared in court.

The case was remanded to the 23rd of July for a formal bail application.

The accused will remain in custody.

Jooste's murder was the "talk of the town" in June when police struggled for over a week to identify her body.

Rawlinson says she was eventually identified via her fingerprints.

Jooste's last address was given as Vereeniging.
