Five suspects will appear in the East London magistrate's court on Monday on a charge of theft from a motor vehicle.
Police spokesperson, captain Mluleki Mbi, says they were arrested on Saturday night following a high speed car chase during which police had to shoot out the tyres of the getaway vehicle.
He says the police were responding to a robbery in progress at a scrap dealership in Wilsonia in the early hours of Saturday morning.
No one was injured during the arrests.
Meanwhile, an 18 year old suspected motor car thief was shot in the lower body during an attempted robbery in Dutwa at the weekend.
Police captain Jackson Manatha says the owner of the vehicle allegedly opened fire on two men trying to steal his car.
The second suspect managed to get away.
The wounded suspect is under police guard in hospital and will face attempted car theft charges once he is discharged.
Manatha says a case of attempted murder has been opened against the owner of the car who shot the suspect.
