Suspects in court for explosives


Seven men appeared in the Port Elizabeth magistrate's court on Tuesday for allegedly plotting to blow up an ATM.

They were arrested on Saturday night in Kwazakehele by members of Uitenhage Crime Intelligence and the Port Elizabeth K-9 unit following an intensive investigation.

Police spokesperson, lieutenant-colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the suspects were found to be in possession of 10 explosive power gel cartridges, a detonator, a car battery and charger as well as a bullet proof vest.

They face charges under the explosives act.

Naidu says one of the suspects, Ronnie Baker, is also linked to a burglary at a business in Uitenhage.

The men are: Ronnie Baker (approx 45 years old) Tyron Ludick (30's); Morne Muller(32 yrs); Christopher Swarts (30's) Mervin Mowers(25 yrs); Lindile Tokoy(30's) and Unathi Mazonda(29).

The seven will be back in court again on Friday.
