Port Elizabeth police are searching for four suspects who tried to rob a truck carrying cigarettes on Friday morning.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the truck driver was accosted by four men wearing balaclavas while delivering cigarettes at the Kuyga informal settlement.
He was ordered to climb into their Toyota Carolla while two of the suspects drove off in the other direction in the truck.
Van Rensburg says police in the area were alerted and chased after the Carolla..
It eventually came to a halt and the suspects fled on foot.
The truck was found a short while later, and it appears that its consignment was intact. The truck driver was not injured.
Van Rensburg says the Toyota Corrolla had been stolen last night in the Humewood area.
