Three suspects are due to appear in an Eastern Cape court next week on charges of extortion, following their arrest earlier this week.
According to a statement from the Hawks on Saturday, they were arrested by members of their East London-based kidnapping task team supported by officers from Magma Security.
The suspects were allegedly extorting “protection fees” from businesses in Ngcobo, Cofimvaba, Dordrecht, and Komani.
The statement said the team, acting on information, intercepted a Toyota Fortuner with Gauteng registration plates and arrested the suspects on Friday.
Police recovered money and two cell phones.
The trio will appear in the Cathcart magistrate’s court on Monday.
