Eastern Cape police are searching for four suspects after a man travelling in a car on the N2 outside Makhanda was fatally wounded in a ‘drive-by’ shooting.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the incident happened on Friday morning when 38-year-old Solumzi Mdlaka and two people were attacked while driving between Makhanda and Peddie.
She said they had left Gqeberha to attend a wedding in Mthatha.
Naidu said the driver had slowed down to go over some speed humps when a VW Polo with tinted windows pulled up alongside.
Two shots were fired from the back of the car hitting Mdlaka in the forehead.
He was rushed to a hospital in Makhanda and later transferred to a hospital in Gqeberha where he died on Saturday morning.
“The suspects are unknown at this stage and the motive is under investigation,” Naidu said.
She said they believe that Mdlaka was the target.
Naidu said police are appealing to anyone who may be able to assist in the investigation or may know the whereabouts of the suspects, to contact the police at Committees Drift.
