Police in Gauteng have arrested three people in connection with Monday's kidnapping of Amy Lee de Jager.
The child was allegedly kidnapped outside her primary school in Vanderbijlpark.
Police Spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidu says the suspects, of which one is known to the parents, were arrested on Wednesday night.
The two women and one man, aged between 27 and 50 were arrested at their homes in Vanderbijlpark.
Naidu says the possibility of more arrests cannot be ruled out.
The suspects will appear in court on Friday.
Naidu says one of the women is known to the family and she is not a family member.
He says the relationship between the suspects is a bit complicated but not significant at this point.
Naidu says they believe that the suspects "returned" Amy Lee on Tuesday morning because they realised that the net was closing in on them.
Amy Lee's school issued a short statement on their Facebook page stating that they were giving police their full cooperation.
