Suspects appear in court for double Hankey murder

Two men and a woman have appeared in court in Hankey in connection with a double murder in the town over the weekend.

Charges have been withdrawn against another woman who was allegedly also involved in the incident.

Police arrested the suspects after the bodies of 41-year-old Claudia Antonie and 6-year old Lukishia Plaatjies were found in a house in Rosedale.

Antonie had been stabbed to death while the child had been strangled according to an earlier police report.

Police spokesperson, Basil Seekoei says two men who are related to the victims, Andrew and Elrico Plaatjies, both 23, indicated that they will not apply for bail.

He says the case against 21- year old Rina Pietersen was postponed to the 11th of August for a formal bail application.

Seekoei says Hankey police arrested four more suspects in connection with the same case.

"On Monday afternoon Hankey police arrested 4 more suspects between the ages 22 and 25 in connection with the same case. Up until now police have arrested 7 suspects in this case. The state will oppose bail." says Seekoei.
