A suspected serial rapist has been arrested by members of Butterworth's Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
Police said the suspect has been charged with 16 cases of rape between 2011 and 2013.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, says 26-year-old Thokozani Siwendu, appeared in court this week. He says DNA tests linked him to the cases.
Its alleged that Siwendu had targeted schoolgirls between the ages of 17 and 21 who were renting flats around Dutywa.
Manatha says a Magistrate referred Siwendu for a psychiatric assessment in Grahamstown and he will be back in court again on the 23rd of May.
