Police in Nelson Mandela Bay have arrested a 25-year-old man following a shoot-out with the police in Kwanobuhle near Kariega.
Spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart says members from the Gqeberha K9 Unit responded to a tracker signal on Sunday morning of a vehicle that was possibly hijacked.
She says the vehicle, a Suzuki sedan was spotted in Kwanobuhle, where the driver fired shots at the police and sped off at high speed.
Police gave chase and the driver of the Suzuki apparently lost control and drove into a fence
Captain Swart says he was arrested at the scene and police confiscated a pistol with several rounds of ammunition.
She says the suspect sustained a gunshot wound in the back and was admitted to a local hospital.
He faces various charges, including attempted murder, possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, reckless and or negligent driving, and using a motor vehicle without the owner's consent.
