Police in Port Elizabeth arrested a 50-year-old suspected gang leader in Bethelsdorp after a search warrant was issued for his house.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says after a thorough search by the Anti-Gang Unit a stolen firearm was found, hidden behind a dashboard panel of his Toyota Tazz.
She says the 7.65 Baby Browning firearm was reported stolen from a gun trader in Walmer in 2019.
Police also confiscated 27 rounds of ammunition and his vehicle.
He is expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court soon on charges of the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The gun will now be sent for ballistic testing to see if it had been used in the commission of any crimes
