Police in Port Elizabeth are looking for a group of suspects who robbed an elderly woman and her son in Martin Street in Charlo on Saturday.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the 90-year-old woman woke up when she heard her dog barking shortly after 1 am.
She says when the woman went to investigate she saw that her garage door was open.
When the elderly woman went outside to close the door she was accosted by an unknown man, armed with a sword, who pushed her back into the house.
Naidu says it is then when the 64-year-old homeowner came out of his room when he too was shoved back into his room.
One of the suspects tried to bite off the rings from the 90-year-old woman's fingers but was unsuccessful.
The men tied up both the woman and her son with cable ties before fleeing with some money, cellphones and an entire safe containing a .38 special revolver.
Naidu says the men fled in the woman's grey Chevy Spark which was later recovered in Prospect Road in Walmer.
