A man is expected to appear in the Graaff-Reinet magistrate's court on Monday for being in possession of perlemoen with a street value of R2.1 million rand.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Marinda Mills, says the suspect was arrested during a routine police checkpoint outside the town last week.
She says police found 985 kilograms of dried abalone when they stopped and searched the vehicle.
Mills says the suspect was arrested at the scene.
"Members of the Graaff- Reinet Saps searched the vehicle and discovered 985kg of dried abalone. It seems like the vehicle was on it's way to Johannesburg. One suspect was arrested" she said.
