Police in Port Elizabeth shot and wounded a 33-year-old suspect who was involved in a house robbery in Humewood in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the 28-year-old complainant, who lives in a ground floor flat in Windermere street, heard a noise in his lounge shortly after midnight and went to investigate.
She says the man was then confronted by three suspects who threatened him at knifepoint and ordered him to lie on the floor.
They stole clothing and the victim's Golf 7 GTI.
Naidu says police spotted the vehicle about 30 minutes later in Standford street and a chase ensued.
The suspects fired shots at their vehicle and police retaliated. Several shots were fired injuring one of the men in the hand and upper body.
Naidu says one member narrowly escaped injury when a bullet grazed his shirt.
The suspects stopped the vehicle and two managed to flee on foot.
The injured man will appear in court soon and will be charged with house robbery and attempted murder.
Naidu says upon further investigation it was established that the men gained entry to the flat through a semi-opened balcony window.
