Port Elizabeth police have shot and killed a suspect during an armed robbery at the Sasol Garage in Linton Grange.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the drama unfolded on Wednesday morning when three men overpowered a Fidelity Security Guard, carrying money he'd received from the petrol station.
The robbers fled in a minibus-taxi with an undisclosed amount of money and the Fidelity Guard's firearm.
The taxi had no number plates but a member of the Dog Unit saw what was happening and gave chase.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says a number of shots were fired during a high-speed chase with the suspects, who then jumped out of the taxi when it stopped in Ditchling road.
A policeman from Algoa Park and a truck driver were wounded in a further exchange of gunfire in which one of the robbers was killed.
Police arrested one of the suspects and seized two firearms.
The stolen money is believed to be in the possession of two men who drove off in the taxi.
Captain Janse van Rensburg said a section of Chase Road between Algoa Park and Young Park had been cordoned off as it was now part of a crime scene.
