A high-speed chase and shootout between police and suspects ended with one suspect dead and another arrested in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday.
Captain Andre Beetge says police were notified by a tracking company about a truck that was hijacked on the N2 that was driving towards PE from the Kinkelbos side.
Beetge says police responded and this was when a high-speed chase ensued.
He says the suspects fired shots at the police and when they responded, the truck came to a standstill in Wells Estate.
Beetge says in an attempt to flee, the two suspects jumped out of the truck and one suspect was shot and killed.
His 30-year-old accomplice was arrested at the scene.
Beetge says the 45-year-old driver of the truck was allegedly forced to sit in between the two suspects while the crime was in progress.
The driver sustained slight injuries and was taken to the hospital.
