Suspect sentenced to six months for escaping from lawful custody

A man who escaped from police custody was sentenced to six months imprisonment in the Great Brak River Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old Francois Stander was on his way to court to face a theft charge when he managed to escape.

Stander stands accused of stealing a boat engine and was caught in Jeffreys Bay two weeks after his escape.

Stander must still appear in court again on the theft charge.
