Suspect nabbed minutes after PE robbery

Quick response by PE armed response officers from Atlas led to the arrest of a robbery suspect and the recovery of all the stolen property.

Police said the drama unfolded on Sunday afternoon when four men entered a supermarket in Buffelsfontein Road at around 1 pm.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said they threatened a 40-year-old complainant before taking a safe, cash and cell phones from staff and customers and fleeing in a stolen vehicle.

Atlas responded and details of the getaway car, which was hijacked in Bethelsdorp, were immediately circulated.

Within minutes the vehicle was spotted and a high-speed chase ensued which ended with it colliding with a security vehicle on the corners of Main Road and William Moffett Expressway.

“Four suspects fled and a suspect, aged 27, was arrested. A .38 Rossi special firearm and all the stolen property were recovered,” Janse Van Rensburg said.

The arrested suspect is due to appear in court soon.
