Police in King Williams town are searching for three men who tried to rob a security van in Dimbaza on Thursday morning.
Police Spokesperson Captain Stephen Marais says two men were collecting money from an ATM when they were approached by the gunmen.
A shootout ensued and a 38 year old robber was fatally wounded.
A security guard was injured in his leg whilst his colleague was treated for shock.
Marais says the other suspects could have been injured in the shoot-out.
No money was stolen in the attempted robbery.
