A 29-year-old man from Greenbushes in Port Elizabeth has been arrested for allegedly killing an elderly woman during a house robbery a week ago.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the 83-year-old Martha Snyman died in her house in Rowallan Park after an altercation, in her passage, with the suspect.
She says Snyman's husband David was also injured but survived the ordeal.
On Thursday this week police followed up on information about a possible suspect that lives in the Kuyga area.
Colonel Naidu says he was detained for questioning and the following day their investigation led them to several houses in the Kuyga area where most of the stolen items were recovered.
She says police found Snyman's diamond ring, watch, jacket, phones and a DVD player which had already been sold.
The 29-year-old will be charged with murder and house robbery and is expected to appear in the PE Magistrates' Court on Monday.
