Suspect in court for murder of well-known EC artist

A man in his thirties will appear in court on Tuesday in connection with the murder of well-known Makhanda dancer and teacher, Ayanda Nondlwana.

Police said that he died in the early hours of Sunday morning in Fingo Village after being stabbed, apparently following an argument.

Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, said Nondlwana’s “untimely death has sent shock waves through the local and international community.”

“We have assigned a seasoned detective to investigate this case,” she added

Govender said that shortly after the incident a man handed himself over to the police.

In a post on its Facebook page, the National Arts Festival described Nondlwana as “a truly gifted dancer and teacher who shared his talent and passion with hundreds of youngsters each week.”

“Most recently he played the lead role in the NAF-produced stage version of Gruffalo, and in its isiXhosa version iGruffalo which premiered at the Festival this year,” the NAF statement said.
