A 35-year-old local man appeared in the Humansdorp magistrate's court on Wednesday on charges of murder and house robbery.
Captain Gerda Swart named the suspect as Bongani Faku and said he had been remanded in custody until his next appearance on the 29th of August.
Faku was arrested on Monday following a home invasion in Sardinia Road in St Francis Bay last Thursday in which 76-year-old Duncan Lethbridge was killed.
A post mortem revealed that Lethbridge died from suffocation after he was tied up and gagged with a cloth in his mouth by two men who accosted him, his wife and house-keeper.
The two women were left severely traumatised after the robbery in which cash and other valuables were taken.
Captain Swart said more arrests are expected.
