A 23-year-old Port Elizabeth man has been remanded in custody following his arrest for the murder of a teenage girl.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said Xolani Nyangwa, will remain behind bars until he is back in court again next Tuesday.
She said Nyangwa allegedly “took” the 14-year-old from a local tavern early on Sunday morning. “A few hours later, the body of the teenager, Sinoxolo Beyi, was found in Mvokonyi Street in NU 29,” Naidu said.
“The teenager’s body was burnt from her waist downwards,” she said.
Naidu said Nyangwa was arrested at his house in the same street.
Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major-General Dawie Rabie, said police would be “clamping down on tavern owners who allow under-age children into their taverns.”
