The Gqeberha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court has issued a warrant of arrest for two of the four suspects charged for allegedly defrauding a local packaging company, Keypack, of more than R1m.

The two accused, Lebogang Makololo (35) and Nkosingphile Mthimkhulu (36), who reside in Gauteng, failed to appear in court on Friday.

Just one of the accused, Paul Mkporo (64), who lives in Gqeberha, was in court.

The State said the summons for his co-accused, Thapelo Mashego (46) who is also in Gauteng, will be sent to him notifying him of his next court appearance as the original summons did not reach him in time.

The four directors and their closed corporations are alleged to have defrauded Keypack of around R1.2 m in an apparent email scam.

The state says at all relevant times, the accused were members of a syndicate who acted in common purpose to defraud the company and commit money laundering.

The Hawks say the scam emails were sent over six days - from the 20th to the 26th of April 2018.

Keypack's credit controller then paid the emailed claims believed to have been from her employer.

But, upon balancing the books, Keypack identified the discrepancies and a complaint was subsequently lodged with the Gqeberha Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team.

The case has been postponed to the 6th of September for an application of the centralisation of charges of fraud, theft and money laundering.
