The MEC for Community in the Western Cape Albert Fritz has commended the arrest of a 42-year-old man in the case of missing UCT student Uyinene Mrwetyana.
The 19-year-old who is originally from East London went missing on the 24th of August and a missing person report was opened two days later.
Mrwetyana's disappearance was trending on social media under the hashtag #BringNeneHome.
The suspect was arrested in Claremont and is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Monday.
Fritz says a body of an unknown female was found in Lingelethu West in Khayelitsha and an autopsy and DNA test will now be conducted in order to positively identify the victim.
The University of Cape Town says this was a devastating development in the case but that they remain hopeful as they wait for results of the DNA.
