Suspect commits suicide hours after being arrested

 A 49 year old man who was arrested for alleged arson in the early hours of Sunday morning, was found hanging in his police cell in Gelvandale.

Police Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the man committed suicide using his pants. His is body was discovered on Sunday morning when prisoners were given their food.

After being arrested he complained that he did not feel well, and he was taken to hospital for a check up, before being returned to the Gelvandale police station.

An inquest docket was opened.
