Police in Port Elizabeth have arrested a suspect who allegedly shot a toddler in Helenvale on Tuesday.
The 3-year-old child was with his father in their yard when they got caught up in the crossfire between rival gangs.
The child was rushed to hospital with a wound to his upper body.
Police immediately infiltrated the Northern Areas to search for the suspects involved and within a few hours, they arrested a 23-year-old man in a house in Voissen Street.
He will appear in court soon where he will face five attempted murder charges.
This is the second incident this week where a child got shot in the crossfire of gang-related shootings.
On Saturday, 12-year-old Alvineesha Brookes was fatally wounded in Buys Street in Bethelsdorp.
The 21-year-old Enrico Gerwel was later arrested and appeared in court on Tuesday on a charge of murder.
