A casual worker from Port Elizabeth is expected to appear in court soon where he will be charged with business robbery, attempted rape and attempted murder.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the 23-year-old did casual work as a gardener for a business in Kragga Kamma.
It is alleged that the accused approached the 27-year-old victim in her office to complain about his paintbrush.
When the woman looked at the brush the suspect went behind her and placed a shoelace around her neck, which he started to tighten.
Naidu says the man also threatened her with a knife and forced her to the floor.
The woman tried to fight off the suspect who then stabbed her in the chest.
He then demanded money and fled with a money box.
The victim managed to run next door to ask for help.
Police followed up on several leads and eventually arrested the suspect on Tuesday evening at a squatter camp in Seaview.
