Uitenhage police are investigating a case of attempted murder and hijacking after a 32-year-old man was hijacked on Tuesday afternoon in the parking area of a shopping centre in the Uitenhage CBD.
Captain Gerda Swart says it's alleged that the driver of a Nissan LDV was approached by two suspects, one of whom was armed with a firearm.
The suspects drove off with the victim in the LDV to Mpofu Street in Kwanobuhle.
Captain Swart says a struggle ensued between one of the suspects and the victim and the victim was shot in the stomach.
The suspects left the wounded man lying in the street and drove off but abandoned the vehicle a short while later in 4th Avenue, Kwanobuhle.
The victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
