A 30-year-old man who allegedly tried to steal a motorist’s cell phone will be appearing in court in Port Elizabeth on Friday.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says a 56-year-old woman was in her car in Govan Mbeki avenue at lunchtime on Wednesday when a man opened her passenger door and tried to grab her phone.
She says the woman screamed for help and two men came to her assistance.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says the suspect tried to flee by jumping into a taxi, but was apprehended by members of the Mount Road Crime Prevention Unit.
She urged motorists to be aware of their surroundings and to lock their doors at all times.
