Uitenhage police have arrested a 22 year-old suspect for the murder of 14 year old Micaylen Hendricks from the Moegesukkel informal settlement in the Kamesh Area.
Hendricks went missing on the public holiday last Wednesday when she never returned home after being sent to a nearby shop by her mother.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli, says an intensive search was launched for Micaylen and that a police task team worked around the clock on the investigation.
Nkohli says the detectives made a breakthrough on Sunday and after interviewing the 22 year-old man the same evening, he led them to his shack in Moegesukkel where Micaylen's body was found.
Nkohli told AlgoaFM news that a post mortem would be conducted to determine the cause of death.
The suspect has already been charged with murder and may face additional charges when he appears in court this week. He is being held in custody.
