Graaff-Reinet police detectives arrested a 26-year-old man on Sunday in connection with the murder of Karen Marais.
He is due to appear in the Graaff-Reinet Magistrate’s Court on Monday where he will face a charge of murder.
Captain Bradley Rawlinson says the 57-year-old victim, who was the wife of a well-known doctor in town, was confronted in her home in Somerset Street early last Thursday morning.
He says Marais and her daughter managed to chase the intruder to the back of the house where a struggle ensued.
Captain Rawlinson says Marais was stabbed in her shoulder and the suspect then fled on foot.
Her daughter managed to drag her mother back into the house where she collapsed.
Her husband, Dr Albertus Marais, who had left home on an early morning call-out, was summoned to the scene.
He rushed his wife to Midlands hospital where she succumbed to her stab wounds.
