East London police have arrested a suspect for the murder of an 8-year-old girl in the Dorchester Heights informal settlement two months ago.
It is alleged that a resident went to check on his vegetable garden not far from the dwellings when he discovered the child's half-naked and partly decomposed body covered with a blanket.
The detective in the case, Sergeant Bulelani Mgubo gathered critical information and arrested the suspect with the assistance of the Cambridge crime prevention unit in Southernwood on Friday.
The circumstances surrounding the incident and the motive for the murder forms part of the ongoing investigation.
The 39-year-old suspect will appear in the East London Magistrate's Court soon on a charge of murder.
