East London police have arrested a 30-year-old municipal law enforcement officer in connection with a shooting in Quigney on Wednesday which left two people dead, and a third man wounded.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa, said the suspect was arrested that afternoon after he went to the Fleet Street police station to report a case of fraud.
She said he also gave details of the Quigney incident.
Mawisa said police became suspicious and upon further investigation took him into custody after he was placed at the crime scene.
He faces two counts of murder and one of attempted murder after the bodies of two men were found inside a vehicle parked next to a hotel in Quigney.
A third man was found with gunshot wounds inside the room that they had booked.
Colonel Mawisa said the suspect will appear in court on Monday.
