Suspect arrested for brutal murder of PE girl released from custody

A suspect who was arrested in Port Elizabeth this weekend for the brutal murder of a 5-year-old girl has been released from police custody.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Alwin Labans says the man was a person of interest but had to be released after he could not be linked to the crime.

The man was arrested shortly after the body of the little girl was found dumped in an outhouse in Rocklands outside of PE at the weekend.

Labans says it is suspected that the victim was also raped.

The investigation continues.
