A 29-year old man is expected to appear in a Port Elizabeth court this week, following his arrest for motor vehicle theft.
Colonel Naidu says the suspect was part of a convoy of four brand new VW Polo's, driving without registration numbers in Mendi Street in New Brighton on Friday afternoon.
She says police became suspicious as to why these vehicles were in convoy in that area.
As they stopped the driver of the first vehicle, the others drove off.
On questioning the driver, he offered various explanations, one that he worked for a VW dealership in North End.
Police then took him to North End to verify his story, but as they neared the dealership, the suspect backtracked and offered another explanation.
Naidu says the dealership was not even aware that vehicles were driven out of its depot until police informed it.
It is alleged that more than five vehicles may have been taken, but an inventory must still be done to establish the exact number.
The suspect from New Brighton is being detained and is expected to appear in court soon.
Naidu says more arrests are expected.
