An eighth suspect is expected to appear in the Mthatha Magistrates Court on Monday in connection with the brutal murder of a Police Constable in Coffee Bay last year.
The 41-year-old Constable Lonwabo Soga was on duty with Constable Siyabonga Nani when they were called out by a group of men who pretended to need assistance.
Upon arrival, Soga was brutally gunned down and his partner was forced to pick up his body, put it at the back of the police van where he was locked up with the deceased.
The suspects then went to a crime spree with the police vehicle.
Four suspects were initially arrested on the 6th of December, three days after the attack. The fifth accused was arrested a few days later at a hospital in Elliotdale.
The last three accused were all arrested this year, with the 8th man being nabbed on Friday.
All accused 21-year-old Afika Bavu, 27-year-old Afikile Nabo, 27-year-old Xhantilomzi Ntshinga, 37-year-old Lubabalo Hlomendlini, 31-year-old Anela Pencil, 27-year-old Bongiknosi Ndevu and the 30-year-old Sinethemba Ndala remain in custody and they face charges of murder, attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
During the arrests, police recovered six unlicensed firearms including Constable Soga's service pistol and other police paraphernalia.
