Suspect arrested following Tobacco heist in Port Elizabeth

Port Elizabeth police are searching for two suspects after a British American Tobacco truck heist in Lorraine on Monday morning.

Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, says the truck driver stopped to deliver goods at a mini market when he was confronted by two men.

They forced the driver into the back of the truck and drove to Henry Botha road, also in Lorraine, where another vehicle was waiting to offload the goods.

Van Rensburg says the two suspects fled the scene on foot and the driver of the Mazda also drove off when a neighbour in the area heard the commotion and started firing shots.

K9 unit members cornered the Mazda at the intersection of Cape Road and William Moffett drive and arrested the 31-year-old suspect after he reversed into a police van.

Janse Van Rensburg says no one was injured and all the merchandise was recovered.
