A 30-year-old man was arrested at a roadblock in Tsitsikamma this week after police found illicit cigarettes hidden underneath a pile of pineapples.
Spokesperson Captain Malcolm Poje says the driver of a Ford Bakkie was travelling from Makhanda in the Eastern Cape and was on his way to George.
A vigilant member of the K9 unit noticed that the driver looked anxious and pulled him over.
Police searched his bakkie and found cigarettes to the value of R200 000 hidden underneath the pineapples.
The driver had eight boxes containing 50 cartons each.
The suspect was arrested and processed at the Plettenberg Bay police station where he was issued with a summons to appear in court at a later stage.
Pojie says drug dealers continue to explore alternative ways to commit their illegal activities.
