A 50-year-old man made a brief appearance in a packed East London Magistrates Court on Monday in connection with the murder of Busisiwe Ngwadla.
The body of the 37-year-old Ngwadla was found in her flat in Amalinda in February, with multiple stab wounds.
The suspect was earlier identified in a police Identikit as the victim's boyfriend Mpiriri Matika.
Police had a suspicion that he had fled to Cape Town and released his photograph to the public.
He was arrested nearly a month after Ngwadla's murder and appeared briefly in court in Cape Town.
The suspect was transferred to East London where he appeared on Monday.
According to police he was visibly calm and relaxed whilst consulting with his legal representatives.
Matika did not plead on the charges against him and the case was postponed to the 15th of May for further investigation.
The court was packed with supporters of Busisiwe's family and ANC supporters.
Matika remains in custody.
