Police officials in Mokopane have launched a search operation for a woman who abducted a six-month-old baby boy at the local shopping centre on Thursday.
Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says the 24-year-old mother allegedly met the unknown woman on the shopping centre and struck up a conversation.
The mom was busy buying food and invited the stranger to join her but she declined.
Mojapelo said instead, the suspect offered to hold the baby so that the mother could eat.
According to the mother they went to another supermarket after lunch, and the suspect, still carrying the baby, joined them.
Mojapelo says it is then when the suspect just disappeared without the mom noticing.
The suspect is in her 20's and her identity unknown to police.
