A 25-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after his vehicle was involved in a collision following a high-speed chase on the N2 near Sedgefield.
A spokesperson for ER24 Ross Cambell says the reason for the high-speed chase is unknown, however, Metro, municipal and Provincial traffic police were all on the scene for further investigation.
He says when paramedics arrived at 5 pm on Sunday, they found three cars on the scene, one still on the road and the other on the side of the freeway.
The critically injured driver needed to be extracted from his vehicle. His wife and two friends suffered minor injuries.
Both of the drivers in the vehicles involved in the chase absconded from the scene but were later apprehended.
