Surfer dies in St Francis Bay Christmas Day tragedy

A surfer died after getting into difficulty while surfing at Seal Point at Cape St Francis on Christmas Day.

The National Sea Rescue Institute said its St Francis Bay duty crew responded along with other role-players following numerous calls to authorities late Wednesday afternoon.

“On arrival on the scene it was found that a local man, a regular surfer in the area, had washed onto rocks after appearing to be in difficulty in the surf from unknown causes,” said spokesperson, Craig Lambinon.

He said a group of young local surfers had rescued the man from the rocks and brought him ashore where Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation efforts commenced.

“Sadly, despite extensive CPR efforts he had been declared deceased”.

Police have opened an inquest docket.

Lambinon said the NSRI also commend the young surfers for their assistance

The name of the deceased has not yet been released.
