Super yacht docks in PE port

The luxury superyacht Aquijo is paying its first visit to Nelson Mandela Bay.

Measuring 86m in length, the vessel is owned by a European businessman and is said to be the largest high-performance yacht in the world.

It was built through a first time partnership between Oceanco and Vitters, and “she is not merely a motor yacht with sails, her twin 90-metre masts carrying identical 1,192-square meter mainsails.”

“With all up, including code sail, her total sail area leaps to a staggering 5051 square meters”.

“The visit of the luxurious superyacht to the Port of Port Elizabeth reinforces the Port’s vision of being a “World Class Smart People’s Port” and promoting the increasing presence of maritime leisure and recreational activities in Nelson Mandela Bay, said Transnet National Ports Authority’s Port Manager for the Port of PE, Rajesh Dana.

He said it was an honour to host “this charming superyacht ahead of the 2019/20 Cruise Liner Season launch, paving the way for similar yachts to visit our beautiful city and sparking an interest in our residents to visit the port”.

According to a statement, Aquijo’s crew is international, with several South Africans on board.

After leaving the Bay, the vessel will set sail for Cape Town.
