The mayor of Sundays River Valley Municipality, Mbulele Kebe, has stepped down.
He resigned at a Council meeting on Friday and was replaced by councillor Zolile Lose.
Kebe's resignation comes in the wake of violent service delivery protests in Kirkwood towards the end of last year.
His resignation has been welcomed by the DA.
Councillor Karen Smtih said Lose needs to restore service delivery to the Municipality.
Her sentiments were echoed by Flippie Ehlers of the Kirkwood Business Chamber.
"Well I hope the new leaders have the political guts to take Sundays River to another step, because the last 5 to 10 years there has been turmoil. It's an economic hub of the citrus industry and we really need a political leader, to do a proper investment in Sunday River, especially the main town of Kirkwod and the communities. The communities suffer the most at the moment because of service delivery, and that's what we need, we need strong leadership." said Ehlers
Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance has called for heads to roll in the Makana Municipality following the release of the Kabuso Report at a Council meeting on Thursday
The report deals with corruption and maladministration in the Municipality at Grahamstown.
DA MP, Andrew Whitfield, says they welcome the release of the report, which names Mayor Zamuxolo Peter among many officials implicated in irregularities.
These range from irregular appointments to irregular payments, some made to municipal officials.
Whitfield says the report had been hidden in an attempt to protect corrupt officials and politicians implicated.
But, he says the unrelenting pressure from the DA has resulted in a victory for the people of Makana.
"The DA will now go through the report to identify issues of misconduct by particular individuals. We will push through council to ensure that those individuals face the full might of the law, the council also has the responsibility to ensure that actions is take against officials that have been found guilty of any infractions of the law."
