Sunday's River Municipality water-supply under scrutiny

The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape has blamed municipal inefficiency for the erratic water supply to towns in the Sundays River Valley Municipality.

DA MPL, Dacre Haddon, says an estimated 20 000 people had been left without water in Addo and surrounds from Friday because of problems with removing mud from Ceasars dam.

Haddon says the supply was restored on Tuesday.

He adds that parts of Kirkwood, particularly Moses Mabhida township, have been affected by a shortage of chemicals at the local water-treatment works.

"If we think that the Sunday's river Valley, citrus area, is the second largest foreign exporter after the motor industry in the province. This is going to put jobs at risk and obviously have a dire effect on the citrus Industry the province cannot afford this and I will be raising this issue during my local government speech on the 6th of June" Haddon said.
