Substations to be fitted with alarms to curb vandalism in NMBM

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will be installing alarm systems at specific substations in an effort to curb widespread vandalism and theft of municipal infrastructure.

The Metro has been subjected to major electrical disruptions which recently resulted in outages for about five days.

Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Nqaba Bhanga says they have appointed five security armed response companies to protect major assets in order for the metro to act and react decisively against criminals.

The Mayor oversaw the installation of the advanced alarm system at Korsten's Durban road towers on Monday.

Last week, the Municipality concluded a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with organised business to safeguard municipal infrastructure which has become the target of vandalism.

The MOU was signed at the Ditchling Power Station in Algoa Park between Bhanga and the President of the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber, Loyiso Dotwana.
