A Fort Hare University student charged with abandoning her newborn baby has been granted bail in the Centane magistrate's court.
Police said 24-year-old Zinziswa Skedama, was released on bail of R500 following her arrest on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson, captain Jackson Manatha, said the baby was found by an elderly couple near Centane on Tuesday.
A cellphone number of the child's biological father, who is also a university student, was pinned on to the baby who is now in the care of social workers.
