Strict bail conditions for Plett child porn suspect

The Plettenberg Bay computer engineer, who was arrested over alleged links to horrific child pornography involving the sexual abuse of infants this week, will have to adhere to strict bail conditions.

The 37-year-old man, who cannot be named until he has pleaded, was arrested at his home during a raid by South African and Belgium police on Tuesday. Bail was set at R10 000 during his first court appearance in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Lieutenant Colonel Heila Niemand, who is leading the investigation in South Africa, said the man had been ordered not to access any computer or frequent his Plettenberg Bay business premises.

He may also not leave town and has to report to the local police station every Tuesday and Friday.

The case against the man has been postponed to the 22nd of April for further investigation.
